About the authors

Karel Janoušek

Member of the Union of Visual Artists of the Czech Republic, regional association in Hradec Králové.

The basic visual element of Janoušek's works is a letter, a graphical representation of which is the author's starting point and inspiration for creating symbols of a certain word. His works are commonly based on a witty idea utilizing visual and abstract abbreviation, an optical pattern of letters and symbolism of meaning and colors. The concise visual message is free of any decorative details, which would distract the observer's attention from following the author's idea. That is why an important role in Janoušek's works is played also by their names, which create a key to decoding the contents and meanings of works. In some cases such names provide only one of the possibilities, thus the observer is left to search for further concepts possibly hidden in the symbolism of a painting.

A comprehensible idea communicated in a cultivated visual form – these are values of Karel Janoušek's works, whose creations are peculiar and original contributions to the Czech lettrism.
